Step-by-step process
Pre-requisites: Verify UAN, Aadhaar, and Bank KYC Seeding
Log in to the Unified Member Portal. Under the 'Manage' tab, ensure: • Aadhaar is digitally seeded and verified. • Bank Account number and IFSC code are verified and approved by the employer. • Your Date of Exit (DOE) is updated by the employer under 'Service History' if applying for final settlement.
Select the Correct Online Claim Form
Navigate to 'Online Services' -> 'Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C & 10D)': • Choose Form 19 for provident fund payout (up to 75% immediately after job loss, full and final settlement after 12 months of unemployment, or full withdrawal upon retirement at 55). • Choose Form 10C for pension fund (EPS) withdrawal after 36 months of unemployment if total service is under 10 years (or Scheme Certificate if service is >10 years). • Choose Form 31 for non-refundable advance while still employed (illness, house purchase, marriage, or construction).
Submit Form 15G / 15H to Avoid 20% to 30% TDS Deduction
Under Section 192A of the Income Tax Act, if your total continuous service is less than 5 years and the PF withdrawal amount exceeds ₹50,000, TDS is deducted at 10% (with PAN) or 34.6% (without PAN). To prevent TDS deduction if your total annual taxable income is below basic exemption limits, upload Form 15G (for citizens <60 years) or Form 15H (for senior citizens).
Upload Scanned Bank Cheque or Passbook Copy
Upload a clean, legible scanned image (JPG/PDF between 100 KB and 500 KB) of a cancelled cheque or bank passbook first page showing your name, bank account number, and IFSC code clearly printed.
Verify with Aadhaar OTP and Submit
Click 'Get Aadhaar OTP'. Enter the 6-digit code received on your UIDAI registered mobile number. Once authenticated, the electronic PDF claim receipt is generated with a unique Tracking ID.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Cheque without printed name: Hand-written names on blank cheques cause immediate automated claim rejection. Use a cheque leaf with your pre-printed name or an official passbook with branch seal.
- Applying for Form 19 before Date of Exit: If your previous employer hasn't entered your date of exit, Form 19 will not appear in the dropdown menu.
- Missing Form 15G for service under 5 years: Forgetting Form 15G results in direct 10% to 34% tax deduction before money hits your bank.
